These things I wish...by Paul Harvey

THESE THINGS I WISH FOR EACH OF YOU

by Paul Harvey

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids

that we made them worse. For my grandchildren,

I'd like better. I'd really like for them to know

about hand-me-down clothes and homemade

ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches.

I really would.

My cherished grandson, I hope you learn

humility by being humiliated, and that you

learn honesty by being cheated. I hope you

learn to make your bed and mow the lawn

and wash the car. And I really hope nobody

gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.

I hope you have a job by then.

It will be good if at least one time you can see

puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.

I hope you get a black eye fighting for

something you believe in. I hope you have

to share a bedroom with your younger

brother or sister. And it's all right if you have

to draw a line down the middle of the room,

but when he wants to crawl under the covers

with you because he's scared, I hope you

let him. When you want to see a Disney

movie and your little sister wants to tag along,

I hope you'll let him.

I hope you have to walk uphill to school with

your friends and that you live in a town where

you can do it safely. On rainy days when you

have to catch a ride, I hope your driver doesn't

have to drop you two blocks away so you

won't be seen riding with someone as uncool

as your mom.

If you want a slingshot, I hope your dad teaches

you how to make one instead of buying one,

I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.

When you learn to use those newfangled computers,

I hope you also learn to add and subtract in

your head.

I hope you get razzed by your friends when

you have your first crush on a girl or boy,

and when you talk back to your mother, that

you learn what ivory soap tastes like.

May you skin your knee climbing a mountain

burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue

on a frozen flagpole. I hope you get sick when

someone blows cigar smoke in your face.

You just might try beer once, but I hope you don't

like it. And if a friend offers you drugs, I hope you

realize he is not your friend.

I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with

your grandparents and go fishing with your uncle.

May you feel sorrow at a funeral and the joy of holidays

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a

baseball through a neighbour's window and that she

hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time when you

give her a plaster of Paris mould of your hand.

These things I wish for you - tough times and

disappointment, hard work and happiness.

Shabby Bedroom

At least I have one totally shabby chic bedroom in the house! Taylor had the whole chocolate/pink thing going on in her room but wanted it more beachy/shabby so while she was away, I painted her bed and armoire a cream color. It's where I go to relax so I know this is truly what makes me happy when it comes to decorating. I love how she collects pretty little things and keeps them in her armoire.

Starting a Scrapbook...

Well, this is it. Tonight I will actually put ph0tos to pages in my first scrapbook. I have read and planned and now it's time to go for it. I know there are TONS of scrapbook sites out there but I just found Scraptivate and got some cool ideas! Wish me luck!!!

A New Friend...

While visiting Sedona, Arizona last Fall, we came upon Arizona's version of an African Safari. We decided we couldn't pass that kind of an adventure up so we went on our first safari, seeing all kinds of animals from tigers to chimps to zebra. We even made a special new friend. He was extremely friendly, giving kisses to all the ladies!

Ballerina Girl

Taylor... the little ballerina girl. Dressing up and twirling almost before she could walk. Through the years, dreaming of sugarplum fairies and tutus.

13 years later...dreams do come true. Regardless of what paths Taylor may take in life, she has worked hard, performed in the Nutcracker a number of times, danced on pointe and made wonderful, life-long memories and friends to go with them.

She has been away for a month, living in W. Palm Beach while taking summer classes at Ballet Florida with her friend Becca. Becca's family welcomed her into their home and treated her as their daughter this past month and I will be forever grateful to them for that. She has loved her classes and is having the time of her life with her old friends. This weekend is her summer performance and she has a ballet solo, so she is especially excited. There is something so special about watching your child do something that brings them so much joy...particularly when that child is as precious as Taylor.

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad

To my Mom and Dad...Happy Anniversary! 58 years...Some might say that is amazing but I would prefer to say that's the way it should be. My parents have shown that marriage truly is forever. Thank you Mom and Dad and I hope your 58th year is filled with many special blessings!

About me...

I am...

~I am a wife and mom of 2 beautiful girls...and 2 adorable dogs.

~I am a lover of all things shabby, tattered and torn...which is a complete change from the person I used to be. If it's pink...I like it!

~I am one of the flakiest people I know and little by little, I am learning to live with that:-)

~I am sometimes easily bored but also can be very creative. I feel as if I have a million ideas swirling in my brain. What to do, what to do...

~I am more old-fashioned than I ever knew, which is funny if you knew me when:-)

~I am a homeschool mom. Even though my girls do most of their classes online, this is what I proudly am.

~I am hard on myself but encouraging to others. If it is at all possible to follow your dream, I say go for it!

~I am a simple person and I appreciate simple beauty...and cupcakes.

~I am a faded worn in jeans kind of girl...holes make them better...with a white tank top, a vintage necklace or pin and cute flip flops. This is my uniform and I wear it well!

~I am a homebody. I used to deny this but it is true. Being home, creating a nest, taking care of my family...this is what I love to do...this is what I do best...and what I want to share.

~I adore crowns and tiaras (explains the name:-)...and have my own as a child of the King!
