Okay, Okay...I KNOW we don't need more sugar...
But I can't help it.
I just have to share the recipe for these
AMAZING AMISH SUGAR COOKIES!!!
Jordie wanted to bake a cookie that we hadn't made in a LONG time...
so we chose this one,
a recipe passed on to me by my sister Kathy.
OH MY GOODNESS...
I had forgotten how good they were.
Jordie wasn't as impressed...
but she is of the generation used to big iced sugar cut out cookies.
which I love too...
sometimes with bought cookie dough.
SHAME, SHAME:)
But these remind me of walking into a bakery as a little girl
and getting a big, snowy looking HOMEMADE Sugar COokie!
WOW-these are soooooo good!
****WARNING****
Only make these if you have someone to give some to
or a party to take them to
OR
You will be like me...
up in the middle of the night wolfing them down.
Yes, that's where they went...
and they tasted so good.
They are buttery crisp yet still soft, sugary, perfectly flavored...
YUMMY!!!!!
Here is the recipe...
AMISH SUGAR COOKIES:
Beat Well:
1 C Sugar
1 C Powder Sugar
1 C Butter
! C Corn Oil (We used Canola Oil)
Add and Beat together then add to above mixture:
2 Eggs
1 tsp Vanilla
1 tsp Cream of Tarter
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Salt
4 1/2 C Flour
DIrections:
Drop a heaping tsp on greased or parchment lined cookie sheet.
Flatten with a glass bottom dipped in sugar.
Bake at 350 for 10-12 min. or till edges are golden.
(Yes, we add a sprinkle of sugar when they come out too...
and do not let them stay on the pan too long or they get too crispy/crumbly)
If you would like these frosted, dip glass in flour instead and frost while slightly warm.
(This is what the recipe says but I confess, we have ALWAYS made them
as traditional sugar cookies)
I think I might make a bunch of these for Christmas, wrapped in clear cellophane bags
or containers. Sometimes I think I make so many junky cookies and I
should just stick to some that are a sure thing:)
Even if you don't make these anytime soon, I hope you bookmark this recipe...
they are that good!
Hey, the AMISH do know how to Cook!!!:-)
God Bless,
Suzanne
Beautiful blog. Welcome to the sisterhood.
ReplyDeleteI have the same recipe. IN my recipe you use an empty spool of thread, dip it in sugar and press the top or bottom to make an indentation on the cookie. It comes out really cute.
Oh yummy! I love the classic sugar cookie too. I am definitely going to be trying this one out, but not today...today is birthday cake day!
ReplyDeleteHope you are well my friend!
Blessings,
Trudy
Hand over the cookies and no one gets hurt! LOL
ReplyDeleteOhhhh Suz those look yummy!
I am sitting here sipping a cup of hot tea {its 90 degrees out what am I thinking right} and sure could use a couple of cookies to go with! :-)
YES the amish sure do know how to bake but it always taste better when they bake it.... I think its their wood burning ovens that make sweets taste better or is it because someone else did all the work?
:-)
I love when they bring over fresh bread, cookies or cinnamon rolls with icing dripping off the sides! Oh yum!
Ok now I am off to see whats in the cupboards to go with this cup of tea!
Enjoy your day,
Hugz, Dolly
Oh my, you are such a bad influence. And I mean that in the most complimentary way.
ReplyDeleteI just made this recipe and it is so delicious. I am going to top some with Nutella as a little experiment.
Thanks for the recipe to add to my binder. This is a definite keeper.
Oh, I'm such a cookie fan. These look amazing. Can't wait to try them out.
