Okay, my daughter is a fan of a surf lifestyle blog called SWELL.

knitting 101...

no, no, no...

this is not a knitting tutorial, silly!:)

but i AM taking my first knitting class this morning!!!

and i'm really excited.

(note to self...PLEASE don't give up a week later!)

i've always wanted to knit.

actually, we did learn a bit...thanks to my mom and sister.

but it never really clicked with me,

so i decided i need official lessons.

PLUS...i keep thinking i'll have a sweet little knitting group

like the ones in Debbie Macombers Blossom Street books.

(still living in the clouds:)

and they do say knitting is good for you...

with my class coming up, it's made me curious.

what are other people knitting these days?

what do i have to look forward to making when i get the hang of this?

here's what i found...

 people are apparently making "tree warmers".

hmmm...very cool, but i think i'll pass on this one:)

i could knit a cute outfit for my mini cooper....NOT

 OR i could knit a bus cover...

 BUTTER...that's what i'll knit!

way less fattening you know!

no, wait...

i'll knit a TANK cover!!!

what the heck?:)

okay, okay...what would i really like to knit someday?

baby outfits!

but what if it turned out like this...

seriously, i like these...

 a little shawl.

 a chunky, soft cable knit quilt.

 sweet, simple baby hats.

i would like to keep my ballerina outfitted with leg warmers.

and yes, they do wear them:)

 and EVERYONE would love these next leg warmers...
ballerina or not.

 a super soft, chunky scarf.

 i could make my own cool bracelets!

 and you better believe my grand babies will have these...
how SWEET!:)

It's time to Spread the Lovin'...

Good morning, my shabby friends.
(and you know I mean "shabby" in the best possible way:-)
Today is Feb. 6, which means I am 6 days late in joining in on Brown Eyed Belle's fun "Spread the Lovin" for Valentine's day.

The good news is...there are no rules. You just post about something(s) you love. That's it! Hey...I can do that. I do it all the time! But this time I am going to write about a few new things to give you a break from the usual suspects I ramble on about the rest of the time.

Starting with...Ronda from Stella's Mom. Haven't heard of her? Then head over to her blog right now. Go on...I give you permission to leave mine...that's how much I like her:-)
Chances are I will never meet Ronda...but I would love to!
I believe she is the kind of person who is a true friend in a room full of "friends"...know what I mean?
To me, she is a true blogger. She posts when she wants, about what she wants, regardless of how many followers or readers she has. She does this because she loves it...at least I think she does:-)
I would be soooo happy spending summers in Maine with Ronda...and little Stella of course.
(not fair when I swelter in Florida in the summer)
But only if she cooks for me. You see...this lady can cook!!!
She posts recipes from time to time although she is not technically a cooking blog...kind of like my dad who doesn't say a lot but when he speaks, you should listen.
When she posts a recipe...you should try it!
So stop by and meet Ronda. Subscribe, too...so you don't miss a recipe. I promise you will not be bombarded with 5 posts a day or giveaway blogs...just a little something when she feels like writing about it.
And her music...awesome! It's playing in the background as I type on MY blog. hahaha

Okay...for your laugh of the day, you have to go visit Blue Violet at A Nut in A Nutshell.
She can blog about ANYTHING and make it funny!!!
She has a bazillion followers (yes...I said bazillion...because she does:-)
and it is no wonder!
She has updates on all kinds of cool stuff happening and being given away but that's not why she is so popular.
She is just so dang funny...and despite her saying she doesn't, she always finds time to stop by and replies to comments.
She recently wrote a post titled "My Secret Shame". I had tears rolling down my face as I laughed. Maybe it's because I could relate. Well...almost...but she had me beat. (hee, hee.) She is one of a kind, you'll see for yourself. Maybe I loved this post because I had my own "secret shame"...MJ, Donny O. and David Cassidy. Magnum P.I, too...how could I forget??? But hers take the cake! So start your day off with a laugh and read this post now...that's an order:-)

Okay, enough rambling...now for some quickies.

Jordie got a guitar for Christmas. The other day, I came across this one on the internet. I don't remember where but the dad it belongs to lets his kids doodle on it. How cool is this??? I suppose a guitar aficionado would be appalled but I say go for it! I want Jordie to write and paint on hers...how awesome would that look in her room...and the little stories it would tell forever. I'm probably the only mom who buys her daughter a guitar and tells her to paint on it, I know. But go ahead and do it, Jordie!!!:-)

Pretties...

I love Etsy.
So much that I could spend hours and hours in the shops,
wishing for everything I see.
It has to be the most inspiring place ever for people who love to create.
So with Valentine's Day just a few weeks away,

Friend Makin Monday: Hobbies

Happy Monday, everyone! I'm joining in on Amber's Friend Makin Monday for the first time. It sounded like a topic I could get into...Hobbies...or things I love to do...things I want to do...and that list is long. (But I'll trim it a bit, don't worry:-) I think my life goes in "phases"...as in my "beading" phase, "knitting" phase (This happens every time I read a Debbie Macomber book as I am now:-) Anyway, I have said before if only I could focus on one or two projects, I might actually master them. As it is, there are too many wonderful things to make out there so I fear I will never change. Anyway, in no particular order, here are some of my "hobbies"...


I love taking photos and one of these days, would love to take a photography class just for fun.




Crafts...This was in one of my crafty phases when I turned every pen in the house into flower pens. We still have them...how can you not smile when you are writing with a big flower???




I still love these! I don't care what Clinton from What Not to Wear says...cute flip-flops are a MUST in the south, thank you very much:-) I made these in every color. I had a neighbor with a flip-flop business and she taught me the ropes...lucky me:-)


I love looking for seashells. This is a hobby I share with my girls and it is one of my favorites. There are few things as relaxing to me as walking along the beach looking for pretty shells or that rare piece of seaglass.



Okay, I love beads. There are so many things you can do, even though I am not exactly in a bead phase at the moment. I think I got hooked on the name bracelets and it went from there. This was one of my biggest sellers. I made a long colorful bead strand from a mish-mash of pretty beads and wore it to pick up my daughter at school. I think I had it on as a double necklace and a teacher asked me about it. I told her it was a triple threat...long necklace, double necklace and belt. She went crazy over it and that year there was hardly a teacher to be found who wasn't ordering these belts. Fun times:-)




Let's see...I got hooked on these a long time ago when I saw one for sale that cost $175. Seriously!!!!! I drove straight to Michaels, bought the most beautiful flowers I could and attached them to a small purse. Voila...a "blossom" bag. (That was what I called them at the time. hehehe)

I also love to read, but prefer uplifting books or those with happy endings. Yep...I'm a sap...big time:-)


...and you know about these. This one is called "Buttercup", made by Taylor.


Wait...there's more. I have also been knitting...it's spotty at best but it keeps me from eating at night so that's good. Hahaha!

Then there are my weak attempts at scrapbooking. I have such fabulous scrappers in my family...what happened to me? But I have been trying lately so maybe this time I will get those albums done for Christmas.

I am learning to speak French...does that count as a hobby? My girls have to learn as part of their schooling and their teacher is letting me in on the class...Yay!!!
